The Native Youth Summit is designed to help high school students with hands-on experience in careers that interest them. Workshops will provide insight into real world experience, as well as educational paths students can take to obtain degrees and certifications. The summer will take place on the campus of the Institute of Native American Arts.
The summit is an all expense paid experience (meals and lodging). The only cost to students is transportation to and from IAIA campus in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Who can attend:
• Native American student from one of the 22 Pueblos/Tribes of NM (Pueblo, Navajo, Apache)
• Students currently in high school (9th through 12th grades)
• Students willing to stay in IAIA residence halls (July 15 - 17, 2009) and have parental/guardian permission to attend.
Students must select 3 career interests and will be placed in such careers on a first come first serve basis. A coordinator will contact students after registration to determine first choice career.
The workshops will focus on the following career pathways:
-Graphic Design
-Film making
-News Reporting
-Radio
-Law
-Forensic Science
-Game Design
-Screenplay writing
-Song writing
-Photography
-Concert Production
